MEET COMMISSIONER CHAKIRA JOHNSON

Driven to Serve.
For nearly three decades, I have proudly called DeKalb County home. I first moved to Atlanta in the late 1990s as a co-op student at Georgia Tech, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. I later earned a master’s degree in international relations from Troy State University. Today, I serve as the City Engineer for the City of South Fulton and was honored in 2022 as one of Engineering Georgia’s “50 Notable Women.”
In 2024, I was elected to serve as your Commissioner for DeKalb County District 4 — a responsibility I take deeply to heart.

ABOUT DISTRICT 4
Where Cultures Meet and Communities Thrive
DeKalb County’s District 4 spans the east-central region of the county and includes the communities of Stone Mountain, Clarkston, Pine Lake, Avondale Estates and parts of Decatur, Lithonia, Snellville and Tucker. The district is home to around 155,000 residents, with approximately 73% living in unincorporated DeKalb and 27% within city limits.
District 4 is one of the most culturally diverse areas in the country and includes major landmarks such as:
Stone Mountain Park — a major tourist destination
Georgia Piedmont Technical College
Your DeKalb Farmer’s Market — a beloved regional hub
